June 2020 Newsletter
We Are All In This Together “We are in this together” and for us Cancer families, we learned that phrase early on from our child’s cancer diagnosis. You meet new people when you are on the cancer journey who understand what you are going through. As much as the “regular” person wants to understand they just can’t fully grasp the emotional roller coaster you are on. The cancer families lean on each other whether it is through advice, celebrating milestones, or just a shoulder to cry on. Pediatric Cancer doesn’t get to “pause” because our society has been hit with a pandemic! In fact, the Pediatric Cancer Warriors we help need us more now than ever! With parents being laid off, or at home for homeschooling or in so many cases, the parents isolating themselves with their family in hopes to keep their immune compromised child safe. The financial worry is felt from every family we speak with, but the gratitude when we can help pay a bill and the relief felt is priceless. So when people ask what they can do for Griffin’s Guardians, please know, that no donation is too small and we understand maybe financially you are feeling uncertain with the future. We are hopeful, come August, when many of our big events will take place, we ask you to help us rally and support these events, in attendance, by spreading the word about the event, sponsoring the event or even donating to our raffle baskets because “we are all in this together”!
Liana from Cicero Elementary Change For Hope The Change for Hope Campaign was more successful in its inaugural year than we could ever have imagined! With 17 local schools participating we raised $18,338.07. That is an incredible amount and it will certainly make an impact on the families Griffin’s Guardians helps that are battling pediatric cancer and being treated at Upstate Golisano Hospital.
We would like to thank all of the local teachers that became “Guardians” at their school. Each and every one of you made this campaign the success it was.
Every school ran the campaign differently, whether it was a collection during lunchtime, using it as a math lesson or as a competition between grade levels. Several students went above and beyond by collecting bottles and cans, while others painted and sold kindness rocks.
Each jug wasn’t just filled with change and dollar bills, it was filled with kindness, compassion, generosity and especially HOPE. Adding the role of a Griffin’s “Guardian” along with your other daily obligations was quite an undertaking and your hard work and efforts surely didn’t go unnoticed.
